What To Expect
Classes are held every Sunday from 4:30pm-6:30pm. Please book your free trial class in advance of attending. Once you sign up for your free trial class, you can just come to class on your scheduled date. Please arrive a few minutes early to get checked in and set up.
Once you arrive and get settled in, you'll have to sign the training waiver. We'll give you a brief tour of the school and layout that day's curriculum.
Feel free to bring a water bottle and towel. You can wear normal athletic clothing, a t-shirt and shorts are fine. The are no shoes allowed on the mat, but you can wear clean wrestling, boxing, or mat shoes.
No training equipment is necessary, but if you decide to continue training, we recommend investing in some equipment such as 16 oz boxing gloves or 7 oz padded MMA gloves, a mouth guard, cup (for men), headgear, and shin guards.
Typically, our classes start with a brief warm up (about 8 minutes), then we go into stretching. After stretching, we start with JKD fundamentals and core training. Toward the middle of the class, we move on towards application and finish with some resistant partner drills or reality-based training drills (multiple attackers, weapons, etc.)
There are no high-pressure sales tactics. Our classes are only $50 to $70/month, so if you enjoy class and it's a good fit for you, feel free to sign up on our website. Upon sign up, you'll be able to try out and purchase additional classes if you like.

What's the Bottomline?
SMALL
CLASS SIZE
You're not just a number stuck in the back of class lost working with another student. Private Lessons and small group training result in faster progression.
ONLINE TRAINING
Our online training program is a full program of recorded lessons. So, if you missed something in class. You can go back and review it. It includes literally dozens of hours of recorded lessons and classes!
PRACTICAL & REALITY BASED
At the end of the day, Jeet Kune Do is about 360 self-defense from all ranges of combat. We train realistically and test everything to make sure it works. It doesn't matter if your instructor can make the technique work, but you must be able to. That's how we train.
PARTNER SCHOOLS
There is strength in numbers. We partner with the best schools in the area to provide you with the best possible training. No single school knows it all. Why not learn from everyone? That has always been the JKD approach.
-
Is there any equipment required for training? No equipment is required for your first few classes. Eventually, you'll want to invest in a pair of boxing or MMA gloves with hand wraps for hitting the heavy bag. If you decide to spar, then you'll need either 16 oz boxing gloves or padded 7 oz MMA gloves with heargear, mouthguard, and cup (for men). If kicking, then shin guards are also required.
-
Do I have to sign a contract? No! There are no contracts! We hate contracts that lock you into a program even when your life situation changes. You can cancel anytime after you sign up. It's up to you!
-
Is Jeet Kune Do the right martial art for me?Ultimately, only you can answer this question. However, JKD was designed to be tailored by the student to fit their body type and ability. Therefore, the art is what you make it. You should have freedom to explore and see what works for you.
-
I am older and/or have a disability, can I still train?"It depends on your disability and you should consult a doctor before training. Generally, if you can walk, then you can train something. Most techniques can be modified for ability or disability.
-
What ages do you teach?Ages 13 and up!
-
What are your prices?Right now classes range from $50 to $70 per month.

Chesepeake JKD is the best place to train in the Hampton roads area! Everyone I've trained with is friendly, polite, and serious about training without taking themselves too seriously. The instructor not only has the most correct approach to JKD and self-defense I've seen in the area, but does not put on airs and demand a cult-like adherence to himself or his art. I cannot recommend this place enough.

I have been taking classes for almost a month now and I enjoy it very much. Rob Doggett is a Great Teacher and Communicator and paces the classes to maximize learning and retention of JKD and Wing Chun! Come in and take a Trial Class and you will not be disappointed!

Rob is a very thorough instructor who I hope to learn from for years to come! I appreciate the detailed instruction and how each class is made for the students there. I'm so glad I found this school. The fitness portion of class is exactly what I needed. It's adjustable for all fitness levels and compliments my regular workout.
